"In college, my friend Kelly Morse asked me to play the theme that would be created by using the composing trick of finding the letters of his name lined up on the keyboard (extending the alphabet up beyond g); at the time, I was a bit stumped to make it sound interesting: d-e-e-e-d-f-a-d-e-e

"Years later, Kelly reminded me that he'd been disappointed that his name didn't make for a good melody — and I decided to prove that I was a good enough composer to make it work.

"Here is the result."
